BNSF BILLINGS

Two Bluegrass technicians diamond wire sawed eleven, railroad bridge piers with horizontal cuts.  After segmenting piers, the pieces were slid out underneath existing bridge for removal on Lake Pend Oreille with the railroad track remaining in place.

WILLIAMS BROTHERS/TEXAS DOT
Bluegrass technicians are wire sawing two hammerhead caps at an elevation of seventy feet.  Four vertical cuts, two per cap are forty-nine square feet with twenty-two #14 bars and fifteen #8 bars.  There will be four cuts on the columns, which are fifty-six square feet each that have fifty-four #18 bars each.  The remaining straddle bent requires two vertical cuts sixty square feet each and consists of forty-four #14 bars each and twelve #11 bars.  The two seven feet diameter columns (34.5 sq/ft) will be cut once under cap.  Total cutting is estimated at six hundred seventy-seven square feet.

Bluegrass performed a technology demonstration of the Marcrist MSW300 Wall Concrete Shaver, mounted to a remotely operated Brokk 250, as part of the FIU-HCET technology assessment program. Six hundred feet of uncoated concrete walls, coated concrete ceilings and coated brick walls were removed at 1/4" depths.

The steam generators were to be removed and replaced through the containment dome.  Bluegrass, using four robotic hammers around-the-clock, broke two large openings through the 3’ thick concrete with 3 layers of #18 rebar on 12” centers, while maintaining the integrity of the containment liner plate.

All cooling water was contained and recycled during the cutting process due to contamination potential.
