In January 2006 Tejas Maintenance, of Odessa Texas, contracted Bluegrass concrete cutting services to diamond wire saw compressor foundations for modification and removal at the HOVENSA refinery in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Technicians were able to successfully configure the concrete cutting equipment to make vertical cuts as long as 31 feet to separate the compressors from the adjacent firewalls. Technicians then made a series of flush cuts to the compressors to segment them into smaller pieces for craned removal.
How contingencies were addressed:
- Crews were kept hydrated to deal with the heat.
- Fire retardant clothing was worn when workers operated close to compressors.
- Slurry created during cuts was vacuumed for disposal.
