Bluegrass' first nuclear decommissioning project took place in 1990 at the Princeton Particle Accelerator in Plainsboro, NJ. Bluegrass has since provided innovative segmentation and modification solutions to over 110 projects in nuclear maintenance, outage, SGR and decommissioning sectors. From cutting access holes in concrete bio-shield walls to segmenting highly activated and contaminated concrete, Bluegrass has a track record of concrete cutting success across the country.
Bluegrass has the distinction of being the first to apply diamond wire saws to a nuclear reactor segmentation project. Our engineers and technicians have the knowledge to configure our highly adaptable diamond wire sawing equipment to meet the specifics of any concrete cutting application. Bluegrass recently handled cutting the top 50 feet off of the reactor sphere enclosure wall at the San Onofre Unit One nuclear plant. In close proximity to spent fuel pools, the Bluegrass team configured the diamond wire saws to produce precise results in a seismically sensitive area with limited accessibility where dust and slurry control was imperative.
