Diamond Wire Sawing of Metal
During decommissioning of nuclear facilities, Bluegrass diamond wire sawing has proven to be an effective metal and concrete cutting method. During a nuclear decommissioning project, contingent circumstances must be taken seriously and handled with extreme care. Bluegrass has safely completed over 1,000 nuclear projects and our diamond wire sawing techniques have garnered praise and delivered results.
Between the March 2002 and July 2002, Southern California Edison contracted Bluegrass to support their nuclear decommissioning project.
- Bluegrass' in-house research and development devised a solution to cut the San Onofre reactor vessel and nozzles. Using a full scale mockup, technicians applied our proprietary dry cutting technique with our proprietary diamond wire sawing techniques to successfully cut a 51 inch O.D. and 12 inch thick wall nozzle.
- In June, Bluegrass metal cutting services applied the diamond wire sawing solutions devised during the research and development phase and successfully used diamond wire sawing to cut the reactor pressure vessel nozzles.
- In July, Bluegrass concrete cutting professionals used diamond wire sawing to remove portions of the roof slabs that enclosed the steam generators and pressurizer in the Unit 1 Containment facility. The project supported the Large Component Removal and Transport Project.
Our technician's years of in-the-trenches experience and understanding of diamond wire sawing equipment and how to utilize it effectively allowed Bluegrass to safely complete the projects on time.
Contact Bluegrass and our cutting professionals will work with you to apply our diamond wire sawing equipment to satisfy the needs of your nuclear decommissioning project.
Bluegrass's performance on over 100 nuclear decommissioning projects has required precision metal cutting services. Here are just a few examples of nuclear decommissioning projects using diamond wire sawing of metal:
Diamond wire sawing of reactor nozzles at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station
Metal cutting services used to segment a reactor missile shield at Point Beach Nuclear Plant
Diamond wire sawing technology on reactor nozzles at Connecticut Yanee
Segmented a reactor head at Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Plant
Stainless liquid level nozzle cutting at LaCrosse Boiling Water Reactor
Inconel tube cutting at Arkansas Nuclear One

The Bluegrass controlled demolition company uses a diamond wire saw for precision cutting, including metal cutting and concrete cutting, in many situations from nuclear decommissioning to very selective demolition during industrial renovations, which may also involve Brokk robotic hammering when diamond wire cutting would be less efficient.
